John Orman Garrett was born June 24, 1913, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the first child of Clarence and Edith
Garrett, and had a younger sister, Jane.
John died February 8, 2000. He is survived by a daughter Judy and her two children, Bryan and his wife Jessica, and
Jennifer and her son Corey; a daughter Martha and her partner Petie and son Eric; and by his pride and joy, his son
Steve. Through the efforts of his lovely wife Shirley, he was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church. He will be
remembered by the few remaining members of the Dale Carnegie classes he taught, his fellow Barbershoppers and of
course by his family and many friends. He was a great teller of jokes, an excellent pool player, a mediocre bridge player
and a lousy golfer. He wrote this obit himself, shortly after June 24, 1998, his eighty-fifth birthday.
That’s all he wrote folks!
